Victim defrauded over $100,000

Halifax District RCMP received a report of a fraud were the victim was defrauded over $100,000 in Eastern Passage.

On April 23, the victim received a call from a person who said they were with Mega Millions and that he had won $18,000,000 and a brand new Mercedes.​ The victim was then directed to deposit money into different accounts at different banks.​ The victim did what they thought was required and made the deposits.

Police want to remind the public that being scammed is never the victim’s fault. Scammers can be very persuasive and convincing. You are not alone if you have been the victim of fraud.

Anyone who suspects they may be the victim of fraud or have been tricked into giving personal or financial information should contact their local police service. Please report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) by phone at​ 1-888-495-8501​ (10​ a.m. -​ 6​ p.m. AST) or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca.
