The inmate who escaped from the Northeast Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Pictou County, Friday, June 5, is now in police custody.



“I would like to thank law enforcement for their efforts in apprehending this individual, and the public for their co-operation in providing information and tips,” said Mark Furey, Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Nova Scotia.

The inmate, Kevin Edward Clarke-McNeil, has been on remand at the facility since December 2019 on several charges, including attempted murder, unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Correctional Services is conducting a full review of this incident.

We’re continuing our thorough search for Clarke-McNeil. All police forces in NS have been notified & we remain present in our communities to support public safety. We’re no longer asking people to remain indoors but please stay vigilant and report any sightings via 911.

 This evening at 8:43 p.m. Kevin Edward Clarke-McNeil 33-years-old​ escaped the North East Nova Scotia Correctional Facility believed on foot. A significant police presence remains in the Coalburn and Priestville areas.​

Described as a 5-foot-8 white male, 200 pounds., long brown curly hair and a large beard, last seen wearing no shirt and grey jogging pants.​

Clarke-McNeil is incarcerated on serious criminal charges including Attempted Murder. Do not contact or approach Clarke-McNeil, call 911. Clarke-McNeil may attempt to return to the Halifax area.

Inmate Escapes from Northeast Correctional Facility

An inmate escaped from the Northeast Correctional Facility near New Glasgow today, at about 8-8:30 p.m.

Kevin Edward Clarke-McNeil is originally from Ontario and was on remand at the facility on several charges, including attempted murder, unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Mr. Clarke-McNeil is 5’8″, about 200 pounds, has brown hair, green eyes and has tattoos on both upper arms.

He has been custody at the facility since December 2019.
Any person who has knowledge of Mr. Clarke-McNeil’s should call 911 or local law enforcement.

Update 5:18 am 2020-06-06: the search is ongoing for Clarke-McNeil. Numerous tips were followed up on overnight.

Update 12:47 am 2020-06-06: the RCMP continues the search for Clarke-McNeil. RCMP Police Dog Services and New Glasgow Police have been assisting.

Update 11:11 2020-06-05 – Clarke-McNeil has tattoos on the upper portion of both arms.

Update 10:50 pm 2020-06-05: Clarke-McNeil is 200 pounds and was not wearing a shirt when he was last seen.

Update 10:38 PM 2020-06-05: Clarke-McNeil escaped at approx 8:43 pm, may be attempting to return to the Halifax area and is thought to be on foot. He was incarcerated due to serious charges including Attempted Murder. Do not contact or approach.
