Municipal statement regarding the Bloomfield site
Following its initial response to the fire at one of the three buildings at the Bloomfield site on Feb. 16, 2025, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE), pursuant to the Fire Safety Act, installed temporary fencing and established security at the site for public safety. In addition, HRFE contracted a company to demolish the structure damaged by fire because of concerns with the integrity of the building as a result of the fire.
The municipality will be seeking recovery of these costs from the property owner. Specifically, these costs are for the fencing, security and subsequent demolition of the fire-damaged building.
The property owner has indicated their intent to proceed with demolition of the remaining two structures at the Bloomfield site through the submission of a demolition permit, which was issued by the municipality on March 11, 2025. Any costs associated with the demolition of the two remaining structures are the responsibility of the property owner.
