Concerned parents rally against HRCE decision affecting elementary school students

News

Concerned parents will be outside the HRCE building in Burnside today after being notified of changes coming to some schools in the HRM which the parents say came to them late, with little to no consultation, and with concerns for the younger students.

Some junior high schools will now accept grade 6 students, making the transition from elementary to junior high harder for the younger students according to some parents.

Some concerns about age difference and bullying as well as a possible lack of services available for the elementary students are what parents are hoping to have addressed by the HRCE but are waiting for communication to open up between the HRCE and parents.

The HRCE have said that the change is due to population growth and to ease overcrowding in schools.
