On Friday, May 5, following an inspection in Enfield, Nova Scotia, fishery officers arrested an individual and seized a truck, trailer, $15,792 and 113 kg of elver worth approximately $500,000.
Between April 15, when the elver fishery closed, and May 5, fishery officers made 53 arrests and seized about 123 kgs of elvers, 28 dip nets, 46 fyke nets, 4 vehicles, a trailer, more than $15,000 in cash and a variety of other fishing and storage gear in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Fishery officers will continue to enforce the Fisheries Act and work with other law enforcement agencies to combat illegal fishing.
