In photos – HRFE teamed up with Air Liquide to take part in realistic HAZMAT training.

Crews from HRFE were called to a business in Burnside for reports of an accident that saw a chemical tank rupture and leak a dangerous cloud of gas in a simulated but very realistic training scenario.

From the moment of arrival, crews had to organize and question staff at Air Liquide, gathering information about the cause of the accident, chemical(s) involved and ensure that all staff were safe and accounted for.

From there, organizing fire resources and preliminary research if the area went underway.

The training scenario saw a twist when larger chemical tanks began to leak.  Drones were used to constantly monitor the large yard, and decontamination procedures were monitored by instructors.

After the completion of the vigorous training (those HAZMAT suits get warm!) the team gathered to discus and review the exercise.

These realistic training scenarios are important practices as they allow hands on training on tools, suits and techniques so when the real thing happens its fluid and second nature for the responders to tackle the situation professionally and safely.
