Police lay drug trafficking charges

Halifax Regional Police has charged a man with drug trafficking after a search of a vehicle in Dartmouth yesterday.

At approximately 5 p.m. police received a report of a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Lamont Terrace. Officers located the vehicle stopped in a parking lot. Officers recognized the driver as a man with multiple warrants for his arrest for unrelated matters. The man was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. The officers observed signs of impairment from the driver. Officers searched the man and the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, and seized stolen property, over four pounds of dried cannabis, quantities of cannabis edibles, resin and powder.

Justin Russell Stroud, 28, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Possessing cannabis for the purpose of distributing
  • Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Refusal to comply with demand for testing
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired by drug
  • Resisting arrest

 

Police lay robbery charges

Police have a charged a man in relation to a robbery investigation that occurred in Dartmouth last week.

On March 22 at approximately 11:50 p.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress on Primrose Street in Dartmouth. A man with a knife approached two people, who were sitting in a vehicle, demanded their property and then fled on foot.

Officers arrested the man in the area a short time later. The man resisted arrest, threatened and spit at the officers. The officers recovered the stolen property from the suspect.

Deveron Tyrone Paul, 37, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Robbery (x2)
  • Assault a peace officer
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death (x2)
  • Possession weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x2)
  • Disguise with intent
  • Resisting arrest
