Kings District RCMP charge man with attempted murder

Kings District RCMP has charged a man with attempted murder after a stabbing in New Minas.

On August 10, 2023, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in a forested area near Crescent Dr. in New Minas. RCMP officers learned that a 19-year-old Wolfville man had suffered stab wounds to his upper body after a physical altercation with a 41-year-old man. The 41-year-old man fled the scene before police arrival. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. The victim was later transferred to a hospital in Halifax via LifeFlight.

At approximately 3 a.m., the 41-year-old man turned himself in to RCMP officers and was safely arrested. He was transported to the New Minas Detachment and was held in custody overnight.

Shawn MacFadyen, 41, of New Minas, has been charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. MacFadyen will appear in Kentville Provincial Court today.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being assisted by the Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section, the Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Kentville Police Service.

MacFadyen and the victim are known to each other. This was an isolated incident and was not a random act.
