Firefighter awarded the Queen’s Jubilee medal for actions taken at 2021 fire

Darren Casey was the pump operator on 9 quint on the night of the Sackville drive mayday fire from feb 2021.

Darren’s HRFE captain, Barry Bastow applied for the Queen’s Jubilee medal, on behalf of Darren and it was awarded the medal.

Darren Casey was nominated for the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.

On February 27 2021 at 0425 hours Quint 9 responded to a structure fire on Sackville Drive. Upon arrival there was heavy smoke showing form the second floor, alpha side. The crew entered the structure for search and fire control, thinking the fire was on the second floor. A Mayday was activated shortly after entry, due to the interior crew being caught on the second floor with heavy fire below them. Engineer Darren Casey acknowledged the Mayday which made all others arriving on scene aware of the situation. Darren Casey’s professionalism and quick actions aided the interior crew.
