New Glasgow Regional Police arrest two people for stealing copper wire from Nova Scotia Power stations in Trenton.

On June 29, 2022, New Glasgow Regional Police have arrested two people in relation to reports of thefts of copper wire from Nova Scotia Power (NSP) substations and power poles in Trenton

After a lengthy and comprehensive investigation New Glasgow Regional Police arrested a 51-year-old male and a 25-year-old male.

The two males from Pictou County were arrested at a police traffic stop where a large amount of copper wire and tools were located and seized.

As a result of the investigation the two have been charged with,

One Count each of Trespassing at night

Two Counts each of Damage to Property

Two Counts each of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

Two Counts each of Theft under $5000.00

Both were released and will be appearing in Pictou Provincial Court at a later date and have been released on undertakings.

Live wire can carry more than 25,000 volts of electricity so there is a very high risk of being electrocuted. A charge from that wire would be life threatening or fatal for anyone and significant damage to our equipment. Stealing wire can generate an unstable electrical current for nearby customers and create dangerous risk to both personal and public safety.

New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.
