Charges Laid in Case of Five Dogs in Distress

Tyler Bezanson, 29, from Annapolis County, has been charged with five counts of permitting an animal to be in distress, contrary to Section 26 (2) of the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia.

On June 7, 2022, Nova Scotia SPCA Enforcement Officers received a call that a number of dogs were suffering from neglect. Officers responded and found five dogs at the residence that appeared to be in distress. As a result of the living conditions and unhealthy physical appearance, officers seized the dogs, and all were taken immediately for veterinary care.

After a thorough investigation by SPCA officers, it was determined that there was sufficient evidence to support charges against the owner of the dogs. Bezanson is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Provincial Court on September 19, 2022.

The Nova Scotia SPCA has a zero-tolerance policy for animal cruelty and neglect. All concerns and complaints submitted to the SPCA are kept confidential. ❗️ PUPDATE on the 5 emaciated dogs ❗️

Our SPCA Enforcement team led a thorough investigation for Greenie and his doggie friends. As a result, their previous owner was charged under the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia.

Further details cannot be released relating to the investigation as we do not want to compromise any court proceedings. ???? It will take time, but we are taking action.

Greenie and his doggie friends are making inspirational improvements. All five dogs are brighter and beginning to show their adorable personalities. ???? We are so proud of their progress.

On behalf of the dogs and everyone at the SPCA, thank you. ????

P.S. While the dogs are healing, they are not feeling well enough to entertain adoption interest or visitors just yet. Once they are ready to continue their rehabilitation plans in a home setting, you will find them posted on our adoption website.

While we appreciate your compassion and empathy, we ask that your refrain from any comments that include profanity or may be considered disrespectful to our social media policy. Thank you!
