Special weather statement in effect
Winter storm with multiple precipitation types beginning Thursday evening.
Locations: All of Nova Scotia.
Time Span: Thursday evening through Saturday morning.
Remarks: This storm is expected to initially begin as rain over most of the province. Heavy rainfall amounts are possible along the Atlantic coast on Thursday night. A transition to freezing rain is likely over all areas beginning early Friday morning, however southern coastal areas may remain in rain until Friday night.
There remains some uncertainty on whether or not northern areas of the province will transition to ice pellets and snow on Friday night. Should this transition occur, accumulations would be significant. All precipitation will taper to flurries by Saturday morning as the storm pulls off to the east. Similar storms in the past have caused hazardous driving conditions, travel delays and school closures.
Additional details will become available as the storm approaches
