Police investigate break and enter into provincial returning office
Halifax Regional Police are investigating a break and enter into a provincial returning office.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. today, police received a report of a break and enter that had occurred at the Clayton Park West Returning Office located at 137 Chain Lake Drive in Halifax. It is believed that the incident occurred sometime between last night and early this morning. Electronic equipment and a quantity of cash were taken.
Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the incident.

Returning Office Broken Into
The returning office for electoral district 10 Clayton Park West (137 Chain Lake Drive), was broken into on the evening of August 15, 2021. Police are investigating now.
IT equipment and two empty ballot boxes were stolen. Elections Nova Scotia has confirmed that there were no ballots in the boxes taken.
All ballot boxes containing early votes cast in the 41st provincial general election were secured in a locked room that was not breached. Elections Nova Scotia is confident that the integrity of the election in that district has not been compromised.
Voting is not currently available in the Clayton Park West electoral district. Elections Nova Scotia apologizes to voters for this inconvenience. Voting will resume in that district as soon as possible.
Elections Nova Scotia will communicate further details as they are known.

Update
Early voting has resumed in Clayton Park West. The returning office has opened a temporary voting location next door to the returning office. The address is 137 Chain Lake Drive.
Elections Nova Scotia apologizes that voting was temporarily unavailable for voters in Clayton Park West. Early voting was impacted for approximately an hour and a half.
Elections Nova Scotia is working with the police to investigate the break in at the returning office and will provide an update for media when more details are known.
What is known at this time is that 7 laptops, a projector, 2 empty ballot boxes, and petty cash (approximately $60) was stolen. No ballots were stolen and all ballot boxes with votes cast remain secure. Elections Nova Scotia is confident that the integrity of the votes cast in Clayton Park West has not been compromised.”
