Municipal services on Victoria Day, Monday May 24

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal service level adjustments on Victoria Day, Monday May 24:

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours

No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Monday, May 24. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday, May 24 will take place on Saturday, May 22. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. To ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the municipal recycling plant and municipal composting facility, will be closed on Monday, May 24 and will be open for regular hours on Saturday, May 22.

The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, May 22.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services

Halifax Transit buses and Alderney Ferry will be operating on holiday service on Monday, May 24. For detailed holiday schedules by individual bus and ferry route, visit​ our website.

All riders are encouraged to continue to check for possible delays and/or cancellations due to staffing availability as a result of COVID-19. Halifax Transit will continue to make every effort to share route disruptions as timely as possible via our website and @hfxtransit on Twitter.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services

All sports courts have reopened for the season and may be used in compliance with current provincial health orders.​

Parks, playgrounds and trails remain open. Users are required to follow public health guidelines at all times. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is available online.

Parking

On-street parking is free on Monday, May 24; however, motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage.​

Customer Service Centres

The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours on Monday, May 24 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The two Customer Service Centres that currently provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, May 24, re-opening for regular business hours on Tuesday, May 25.
