Update on HRP enforcement statistics related to COVID-19 directives
Police have issued a summary offence ticket to a man for violating regulations of the Health Protection Act yesterday.
At approximately 5:15 p.m. on April 1, police issued a summary offence ticket to a 35-year-old Halifax man who was failing to provide safe social distancing to others at a bus shelter on Duke Street in Halifax. The man was issued a $1,000 ticket for failing to comply with regulations, contrary to section 71.1(b) of the Health Protection Act.
Beginning April 6, Halifax Regional Police will proactively release updates each Monday and Friday to the public and media in relation to violations under the Nova Scotia Emergency Management Act and Health Protection Act related to COVID-19.
Since the Province declared a State of Emergency on March 22, HRP has issued seven summary offence tickets in total, six of which were in relation to being in prohibited areas and one in relation to social distancing. During this period HRP has responded to 620 COVID-19 related calls.
