Spring Road Weight Restrictions to Begin
—————————————————————
Spring weight restrictions on all provincial roads will begin on March 2, starting at 12:01 a.m.

Restrictions begin at that time for Halifax Regional Municipality and the following counties, Annapolis, Colchester, Cumberland, Digby, Hants, Kings, Lunenburg, Pictou, Queens, Shelburne and Yarmouth.

Restrictions for Cape Breton Regional Municipality and Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Richmond and Victoria counties will start a week later at 12:01 a.m., Monday, March 9.

The department will continue to monitor road and weather conditions to determine when it is safe to remove the restrictions.

For inquiries on road weight restrictions, contact the Operations Contact Centre at 1-844-696-7737.

Quick Facts:
— weight restrictions on heavy vehicles are necessary during the spring thaw to protect roads that are weakened by mild and wet weather
— weight restrictions are expected to be in place for about two months
— some roads, including 100-series highways, are exempt from the restrictions

Municipality implements annual Spring Weight Restrictions

To minimize potential damage to municipal streets and roads, the Halifax Regional Municipality will introduce its annual spring weight restrictions, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 2.

These restrictions are for heavy vehicles travelling on municipally maintained roads (attached). Regular weight tolerances apply on exempt roads.

The weight restrictions are expected to remain in place into the spring, at which time the municipality will issue a PSA advising the restrictions are lifted.

The municipality’s spring weight restrictions are consistent with those of the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (NSTIR). Details of vehicle restrictions can be found online at http://novascotia.ca/tran/trucking/springweight.asp.
