**** RCMP Media Release 

Wanted man in custody following report of attempted theft of vehicle

Earlier this morning, Nova Scotia RCMP arrested 31-year-old Tobias Doucette following a report of an attempted theft of a vehicle.

RCMP National ERT and Lunenburg District RCMP along with Halifax Regional Police Service Dog Team were already in the area conducting searches when the call came in. Police was on scene for the attempted vehicle theft within 7 minutes of the call. The Police Dog Service quickly acquired a track while dozens of patrol officers were called into the area to provide support with containment. Within the hour, RCMP and Bridgewater Police Service had 18 marked police vehicles in the area between Hwy #3 Hebbville and the Conquerall Mills Road. The area was contained and all traffic stopped from entering the area.

RCMP National ERT were on the track and requested the Nova Scotia RCMP ERT as well as RCMP Air Services from Moncton, N.B. As these added resources headed to the area, ERT maintained a constant track on the suspect. At approximately 12:30 a.m., RCMP Air Services spotted a heat signature in the same area as the ERT track.

At 12:50 hrs, ERT made contact with the suspect and he was arrested without incident. He was transported to Cookville RCMP cell block and attended to by EHS.

RCMP and Bridgewater Police Service are working in partnership to investigate the file. Bridgewater Police Service and RCMP are investigating charges of Attempt Murder, Aggravated Assault, Assault with A Weapon, Assault, Injuring a Law Enforcement Animal, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (x2), Mischief under $5000 as well as theft of a motor vehicle.

Doucette will be remanded into custody and appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court at a date yet to be determined.

**** Bridgewater Police Release

UPDATE (10:45 a.m.)

At approximately 9:00 p.m. last night, Lunenburg District RCMP received a call regarding an attempted stolen vehicle in Hebbville, Nova Scotia. RCMP, with assistance of Bridgewater Police Service, set up a perimeter to allow RCMP ERT to search the location for the suspect.

After a thorough search of a wooded area in Hebbville, Tobias Charles Doucette was located and arrested without incident. Doucette was still only wearing shorts, with no shoes or shirt. No weapons were located during arrest. Doucette suffered no injuries as the result of the arrest. He was assessed by EHS while in custody for his wellbeing.

Police were prepared for a safe resolution and are pleased that no one else was hurt during this event.

The police investigation is ongoing and Doucette is expected to appear at Bridgewater Justice Centre on Monday, July 27, 2020, for initial plea.

Police again want to thank the public for their understanding and heightened sense of awareness over the past several days. Police are also grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes for Sgt. Bennett and K-9 Fergus as they continue with their recoveries.
