Severe weather warnings / watches for Hants, Lunenburg, Kings and Annapolis County

TORNADO WATCH

Conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds and possibly brief, weak tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. radar is detecting very intense thunderstorms northeast of Windsor. Near Avondale, Doppler imagery is suggesting the possibility of circular motion or rotation near one of these thunderstorm. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes. SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. Radar is detecting strong thunderstorms currently impacting areas between Lake Mulgrave, Bear River, and areas south of Annapolis Royal. The motion is northeastward at 30 km/h. These thunderstorms will reach areas between Granville, Middleton, and then south to Albany and Scrag Lake during the next hour.

Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
