Nova Scotia RCMP issued over 1,100 Motor Vehicle Act charges and charged 38 impaired drivers during road safety week
The Nova Scotia RCMP laid over 1,100 Motor Vehicle Act charges and charged 38 impaired drivers during Canada Road Safety Week (CRSW), which ran May 17-23.
CRSW, an initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, is intended to save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
“Canada Road Safety Week is an opportunity for police in the province to work together to reinforce the importance of safe driving,” says Cpl. Chris Marshall of the Nova Scotia RCMP. “Keeping our roads safer is a priority that has a significant impact for everyone.”
During the week, the following enforcement actions were taken:
- 38 impaired drivers were charged
- 562 drivers were charged for speeding or stunting
- 40 drivers were charged for distracted driving
- 78 drivers were charged for driving without a seatbelt
- 470 drivers were charged for various other traffic offences (e.g., driving without insurance; failure to obey provincial road rules)
If you see dangerous driving, report it to police when it’s safe to do so. It’s helpful to include the location and description of the vehicle (including license plate number, colour, make and model), its direction of travel and a description of the driver.
