On this Safer Internet Day, remember: Scammers are always trying to come up with new ways to steal your information – or your money
Here are a few tips to help keep you safe:
• Think before you click. Avoid suspicious links in emails or messages.
• Check before you trust. Scammers often pretend to be banks, government agencies or even family members. If there’s any doubt about the authenticity of a caller, ask to be called back.
• Use strong passwords. Always enable multi-factor authentication for added security.
• Keep up to date. Keep your software and security settings up to date.
• Report fraud. If something doesn’t look right, report it to your local police and to the Canadian Antifraud Centre.
And: If it sounds too good to be true, or they’re putting too much pressure on you to send payment, it’s likely a scam.
Share these tips and help spread the word.
