Saint Barbara’s Day Gunnery Activities at Canadian Forces Base Halifax
Residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality are to be advised that Saint Barbara’s Day gunnery activities will occur on Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax property on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 that may be audible or visible to the public. Details:
- On the morning of December 2, a Saint Barbara’s Day gunnery competition will take place onboard HMCS Sackville, currently berthed alongside His Majesty’s Canadian Dockyard. Any loud bangs or noises are a result of competition crews firing blank rounds toward the Halifax Harbour; and
- On the evening of December 3, soldiers from 1st Field Artillery Regiment, RCA will fire a 10-round gun salute in commemoration of Saint Barbara’s Day at CFB Halifax Stadacona. This will cause increased levels of noise in and around the site for a brief period of time. This gun salute will use blank rounds (no live ammunition) and safety teams will monitor and control all activities.
Saint Barbara is considered the patron Saint of all gunners; these Saint Barbara’s Day customs are in the spirit of camaraderie and are part of regimental and naval history.
Any noise or inconvenience to residents as a result of these activities is regretted.
