Thank you.
A tremendous amount of work and effort went into the fight at the Tantallon wildfires. With the area slowly reopening to residents, we want to recognize those who made a difference.
The call started off involving HRFE firefighters, and this includes both career and volunteer members who showed up first and remain.
Volunteer firefighters stayed involved through the entire event and provided much needed coverage and support at the Fire and beyond.
DNR responded quickly and brought wildfire expertise as well as most needed air support, monitoring the fire area, direction and more. Vital tactics and extra eyes kept crews constantly informed and safe.
It wouldn’t be fair to leave out those who tackled pet and wildlife rescue. From local volunteers such as Amy who helped rescue and reunite pets with families of n the ground and through social media, Hope for Wildlife and their contribution to both major fires at the same time, the Nova Scotia SPCA and more, including those who made donations to help, our pets are family and your support is special
Multiple counties and even far away firefighters and wildfire teams, including from PEI, military (Early on scene was Halifax Dockyard Fire), crews from Windsor and many others, you helped when it was much needed. It made a world of difference.
Many organizations such as the Red Cross raised funds and took donations to help those who were suddenly displaced from their homes.
Many continue to take donations and just as important, to those who made a donation or helped in some way, amazing job. You made a difference too.
You didn’t have to be on the front line to make a difference. Logistic staff, office staff who worked around the clock taking care of background needs, and dispatchers juggling the multiple calls, thank you.
Police who provided security, and still do, medical teams (such as EHS) and city workers who provided multiple services throughout the fire, and still do, as well as utility Works such as Halifax Water and NSP, who were quick to respond, provided (and still do) incredible help as needed.
Mental health is important. Many services are available for those affected by the wildfire. An extra special shout out to HRFE Capt Thompson and her therapy dogs Siren and Bishop who also provided a unique comfort for the frontline workers and continues to do so.
Government, both municipal and provincial, through EMO or other means, kept the public information flowing often and combined with services such as funding continue to ensure that residents are cared for and informed.
There are so many more I may not have listed (sorry if I didiss you) but to those who I missed but deserve a shout out, please comment below for your much needed recognition.
And to those directly affected by this fire, your community and province and beyond have shown that you are not alone. NS Strong.
