SiRT Concludes Nove Scotia Investigation into Serious Injury Sustained During an Arrest

—————————————————————————————————————–

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) found no reasonable grounds to believe the actions of a Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Officer resulted in a serious injury sustained during an arrest in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.

In the early afternoon of September 14, 2024, officers were called to a domestic dispute at a shopping plaza on the corner of Hammonds Plains Road and the Bedford Highway. Multiple 911 calls reported an adult male and female were arguing and the female was continuously hitting the male and ripping his clothes off.

An HRP officer located a woman who matched the description from the calls in a vehicle in the parking lot. She ran away from the officer and proceeded to jump over a fence that had a drop of over 15 feet on the other side, resulting in a fractured foot.

On September 15, 2024, SiRT received a referral from HRP and began their investigation.
