UPDATE: Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit charges second person in connection with Vernon Doucet homicide

The Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit has charged a second man in the 2022 homicide of 64-year-old Vernon Doucet.

This morning, at approximately 9:45 a.m., RCMP officers with the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit arrested 33-year-old Dillon Burton Deveau of Yarmouth. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder and appeared in Digby Provincial Court today, where he was remanded into custody.

On June 24, 33-year-old Tyler Langford of Weymouth was arrested; he was also charged with Second Degree Murder and remanded into custody.

Both Langford and Deveau will next appear in Digby Provincial Court on July 18, at 9:30 a.m.

At approximately 7:25 a.m. on February 16, 2022, Meteghan RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Second Division Rd. in Concession. The homeowner, Doucet, was severely injured during the offence and later died in hospital. His death was deemed suspicious and the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit took control of the investigation.

Investigators believe Deveau and Langford are responsible for Doucet’s murder; no other arrests are expected.

The Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit’s investigation was assisted by the Digby and Meteghan detachments, the Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit, Federal RCMP in Nova Scotia, and the Emergency Response Team.
