Veterinary Hospital to create new Nova Scotia SPCA Record on World Spay Day

Helping pet parents every day comes naturally to the team at the Nova Scotia SPCA Veterinary Hospital. But setting a record for the most spays and neuters in one day? Turns out it makes them excited.

“Our team is very efficient at spay/neutering,” says Dr. Kyla Wuhr, Director of Veterinary Services for the Nova Scotia SPCA. “While this will be a challenge logistically, we are confident that we will safely create a new record in Nova Scotia while helping many pet families.” She continues to emphasize that the team at the Nova Scotia SPCA Veterinary Hospital is pleased to make this happen for Spay Day HRM. “We have staff volunteering to come in on their day off and some of our Nova Scotia SPCA College of Animal Welfare team are also participating.”

Spay Day HRM is the organization leading the charge. Founder Linda Felix says that Spay Day 2024 will be a record-setter for her organization as well, as they will facilitate the spay/neuter of 89 cats in Halifax.

“It will be a wonderful day to have this many cats not adding to the local cat population. This is only possible with the help of our 13 volunteer drivers, the donors who support our work and the five participating veterinary clinics. Special thank you to everyone involved.”

The Nova Scotia SPCA Veterinary Hospital will be one of the five locations participating. The hospital is prepping to do surgery on 56 cats through the work of almost 20 veterinary medical team members, making it a record-breaking day for the SPCA.
