Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating suspicious death

Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating a suspicious death that occurred in Paq’tnkek.

On January 4, shortly before 3:00 a.m., Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death at a home on Petow Loop Extension in Paq’tnkek. The victim is a 40-year-old male of Paq’tnkek, and his death is being treated as suspicious.

That morning, a 27-year-old Paq’tnkek man, known to the victim, was safely arrested at the scene and is currently in custody.

At this time, investigators do not believe this was a random act and there’s no risk to the public.

The investigation, led by Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, is ongoing and being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service and RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
