Halifax District RCMP charge a man with firearms offences

Halifax District RCMP has charged a man in relation to the seizure of firearms in Westphal.

On September 30, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Halifax District RCMP executed a search warrant at a home on Leander Dr. in relation to an ongoing investigation.

At the residence, RCMP officers safely arrested a 41-year-old Westphal man. A search of the property then resulted in the seizure of three handguns, two rifles, ammunition and magazines.

Michael Serge Cormier, 41, has been charged with numerous offences including:

  • Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (three counts);
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (two counts);
  • Careless Use of a Firearm;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon or restricted Weapon (two counts);
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (two counts).

Cormier was held in custody and on October 3, he was released on conditions by the court. He’s scheduled to return to Dartmouth Provincial Court on December 11, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
