Halifax District RCMP charge a man with firearms offences

Halifax District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged a man and seized firearms from a home in Hammonds Plains.

On February 10, shortly before 1 a.m., Halifax District RCMP officers responded to a report of a man, with a handgun, outside of a residence on Sandwick Dr. RCMP officers learned that a taxi driver who attended the residence observed the firearm when a man, who was trying to conceal it, advised him to leave. A woman, who was also present, also asked the driver to leave the area.

RCMP officers arrived at the scene and were attempting to make contact with the occupants inside the home, when a man and a woman exited the residence. The 30-year-old Hammonds Plains man was arrested safely.

Later that morning, Halifax District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at the home. During the search, officers located and seized a rifle, a replica handgun, ammunition and a small quantity of what’s believed to be cocaine.

  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (two counts);
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • Careless Use of a Firearm;
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order (two counts).
