UPDATE: Search for missing swimmer in Gold River

The 31-year-old man who was reported missing in Gold River is believed to have been swept out to sea.

On July 24, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a missing swimmer; he had been tubing in the Gold River with two other men when his tube capsized. He was last seen drifting down river.

An exhaustive search was conducted and all search areas have been thoroughly covered. Led by the Lunenburg District RCMP, the search for the man was assisted by RCMP Air Services, RCMP Police Dog Services, the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre, the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, the Western Shore Fire Department, and ground search and rescue teams from multiple jurisdictions.

While search efforts have been concluded based on the belief the man was swept out to sea, the file will remain open; new search activities will be considered should new information be received.

When someone goes missing, it has deep and far-reaching impacts for the person and those who know them. At this difficult time, our thoughts are with the man’s family, his loved ones, and the community.
