Message from Chief Stuebing
From July 16 to 26, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) will be celebrating our 2SLGBTQ+ members and residents during the 2020 Halifax Pride Festival across K’jipuktuk (Halifax Regional Municipality).
This year’s theme is Pride//Amplified. HRFE members have a unique and important role in creating a municipality where everybody feels safe, welcomed and included—particularly for those who are under-represented and marginalized such as our Black, Trans, Indigenous, and People of Colour community members. We can use our roles to amplify their voices through allyship.
This year’s theme provides us with an invitation to show pride in our people while engaging in truth and reconciliation with our First Peoples through action and education.
As part of our Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, HRFE has been reviewing our infrastructure to create more gender-inclusive spaces such as washrooms and dorms, as well as developing training to develop knowledge and skills that will help us continue building a workplace culture that we can all take pride in.
Please join me in celebrating and practicing being an ally by attending an event, exploring educational material on the Halifax Public Libraries’ virtual library portal, and showing your pride during the HRFE #prideinourpeople campaign.
