Jenna MacNeil, 40, of Caribou Marsh, Nova Scotia, has been sentenced for animal cruelty. MacNeil was convicted in Sydney Provincial Court on April 13, 2023, for two counts of permitting an animal to be in distress, contrary to section 26 (2) of the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia. The sentencing on July 7, 2023, included a 10-year prohibition from owning animals, a restitution of $3,371.77, and a $500 fine.
On September 9, 2022, the Nova Scotia SPCA received a complaint regarding the welfare of animals. SPCA Enforcement Officers responded and left Orders to Comply. After receiving a search warrant, SPCA Enforcement Officers returned for a third time on September 14, 2022. Inside the property, three dogs and two cats were found to be in critical distress in unsanitary living conditions. All five animals were seized and immediately taken for medical care. They have since made full recoveries.
