Cumberland County District RCMP charge former teacher with sexual offences

Cumberland County District RCMP has charged a former teacher with sexual offences.

In October 2022, Cumberland County District RCMP were notified by a municipal police agency in Ontario about a historical sexual assault that occurred in Oxford, Nova Scotia, between 2011 and 2014. The survivor, who was a youth at the time, came forward and provided details about having been sexually assaulted by one of her former teachers while she attended the Oxford Regional Education Centre (OREC). In an effort to determine if any other students were at risk, RCMP officers confirmed, at the outset of the investigation, that the teacher was no longer employed in the education system.

As a result of an extensive investigation, on June 29, 2023, RCMP officers arrested James William Conrad, 39, of Amherst. Conrad has been charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Sexual Exploitation and Invitation to Sexual Touching. Conrad was released on conditions and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on September 25, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

Cumberland County District RCMP is reaching out to offer support and encourage anyone who be a survivor to come forward by contacting your local police or RCMP Detachment. Police want survivors to know that they can contact them and discuss an incident before making a decision to further participate in the investigation and court process. The Cumberland County District RCMP can be contacted at 902-447-2525.
