Community hub opens for residents affected by fires
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that a community hub has opened in the lower parking lot of the St Margaret’s Centre (12 Westwood Boulevard) to support residents affected by the fires.
The community hub will provide a place where residents can speak with a municipal community liaison and connect with different community groups that offer support services, like the United Way and the Red Cross. The United Way will be available today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. More details regarding scheduling for support services will be available on halifax.ca/fire as the information is confirmed.
Residents may also access resources, such as smoke kits, at the community hub. Smoke kits include cleaning supplies, such as gloves, garbage bags, sponges, mops, brooms, masks, etc. to assist residents with clean up after a fire. Please note that well-water testing kits are not available at the community hub. For more information on the Province of Nova Scotia’s free well-water testing program, visit: https://novascotia.ca/alerts/
The community hub will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday until further notice. Residents may contact the community hub by email or by phone (902.476.5315).
