Thank you to everyone for cooperating with mandatory evacuations related to the Tantallon area and Shelburne County fires

We understand how difficult it is to leave your home behind and stay away, but please know, it’s the safest thing for residents to do.

RCMP officers are proactively patrolling the #Tantallon and #ShelburneCounty areas, working in what are very smoky and difficult conditions, to keep your communities safe and secure. We’ve not received reports of suspicious activity in the evacuation zones.

For everyone’s safety and to support the firefighting efforts, please note:

• Contact the SPCA at 902-835-4798, if you have had to leave a pet behind, or visit their website: https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/ We’re asking residents to not show up at checkpoints to retrieve their pets.

• Airspace and waterways around the fires are being used by helicopters and water bombers to fight the fires. Please keep your drone on the ground and your boat docked. Otherwise, you may be impeding firefighting efforts, and we all want the fires contained asap. In Shelburne County, there are many flight paths being used to access the fire, and lake and ocean waters are being used by water bombers.

• Hwy. 103 and additional road closures are in effect related to the Shelburne County fire. For the latest on road closures: https://511.novascotia.ca/

• Our officers are warning of scams in relation to wildfire financial relief. If you receive a text message, email or phone call about financial relief, it is likely a scam. Wildfire financial relief is being administered by the Canadian Red Cross: https://bit.ly/3oE8x12

• 911 is reserved for instances of immediate threat to health, safety or property. Please only call 911 if you have an emergency and need immediate assistance. If your issue is not an emergency, please contact your local RCMP detachment or local police. For information on the province’s fire ban, contact the NS Dept. of Natural Resources and Renewables: https://novascotia.ca/natr/staffdir/offices.asp
