Digby RCMP charge man with Aggravated Assault

Digby RCMP has charged a man with Aggravated Assault after an incident in Mount Pleasant.

On May 18, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Digby RCMP responded to a report of a man breaching his conditions on Church St. in Digby. RCMP officers learned that a 37-year-old Digby man had attended a home on Church St. earlier in the day and is bound by conditions to not be at the home. RCMP officers began making efforts to locate the man and spoke with him by phone, however he refused to meet with officers.

While officers began preparing to apply for an arrest warrant, at approximately 7:05 p.m., they were dispatched to a report of a possible stabbing on Golf Course Rd. in Mount Pleasant. Officers were advised that the two men had possibly been stabbed by the 37-year-old Digby man, who had broken into their home. When officers arrived at the scene, the man was located and safely arrested.

The investigation determined that everyone involved was known to one another, that no stabbing occurred and that the two victims had actually been struck by a metal pipe.

Both victims suffered serious but, non-life-threatening injuries, and were transported to hospital.

Joel Gregory Morris, 37, has been charged with Aggravated Assault (2 counts), Break and Enter and Commit, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Failure to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order.

Morris was held in custody overnight and will appear in Digby Provincial Court today.
