Municipal service level adjustments for the Easter long weekend

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for the upcoming Easter long weekend from Friday, April 7 to Monday, April 10.

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours:

There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection services on Friday, April 7.

Curbside collection normally scheduled for Friday, April 7 will instead occur on Saturday, April 8. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. and to please ensure they place materials curbside before that time.

Regular curbside collection services will resume on Monday, April 10.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Materials Recovery Facility will be closed on Friday, April 7 but will be open on Saturday, April 8 for regular business hours.

The Household Special Waste (HSW) Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, April 8 but will be open on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halifax Transit Bus & Ferry Services

Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Friday, April 7. Please note there will be no ferry service in operation on Friday, April 7 – but the Alderney ferry will operate on regular schedule on Saturday, April 8 and provide holiday service on Sunday, April 9.

Buses and ferries will operate on regular schedules on Monday, April 10.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:

Most municipally operated recreation facilities will be closed on Friday, April 7.

Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information as weekend hours may vary. Contact information for municipally operated facilities is online.

Customer Contact Centres

In-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Friday, April 7 and Monday April 10. Centres will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, April 11

The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours on Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Parking

On-street paid parking will be free on Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10. Residents are reminded to always abide by posted signage and other safety regulations, including ensuring they are not blocking crosswalks.
