Municipal service level adjustments for 2021 Thanksgiving Day
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following service levels in effect on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11:
Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours
No municipal solid waste collection services will take place on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11. Curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Monday will occur instead on the preceding Saturday, Oct. 9. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.; to ensure pick-up, residents may place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax Recycling Plant and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11, but will be open for regular hours on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The residential Household Special Waste (HSW) Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 9, and will re-open on Saturday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, there is a mobile HSW event at MicMac Mall, 21 Micmac Boulevard, Dartmouth on Saturday, October 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services
Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday service on Monday, October 11.
The Alderney Ferry service will run at half-hour frequency on Monday, October 11. The first crossing will depart the Alderney terminal at 7:30 a.m. and the final crossing will depart the Halifax terminal at 11:45 p.m. There will be no Woodside ferry service on Monday, October 11.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services
The majority of municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11. Partner facilities may be closed or have modified hours on Thanksgiving day. Please contact your individual facility in advance to confirm operating hours.
Parking
On-street paid parking is free on Thanksgiving Monday, however motorists must abide by other posted signage – including no-stopping and accessible zones.
Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Call Centre will be operating on regular hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11. The Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Monday, Oct. 11, and re-open for regular business hours on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
