March Success Story – Tiffany

Tiffany is from Oxford, Nova Scotia and graduated from Camp Courage class of 2006 and the Saint Francis Xavier Nursing program in 2012. After being a Nurse for nearly five years in rural Newfoundland, she found her passion for helping people with mental illness. She is a certified peer supporter with CHANNAL a nonprofit organization that provides a warm line which is a step down from a crisis line for mental health. Tiffany says her work is an “absolutely unreal experience and that every day she is humbled.”

She is involved with public education and consults on policies and procedures affecting vulnerable people. As a program facilitator for a nonprofit program called Ignite Circus, Tiffany creates a safe space for marginalized people to be and learn about consent, positive risk-taking, mitigating, team building and body empowerment.

In addition, Tiffany is on the board of directors for the Collation Against Sexual Exploitation of Youth (CASY) and EVOLVE, an organization that provides a place for survivors of sexual exploitation to take back some of their power.

Tiffany said ‘I’m thankful I’ve survived and that I have found my voice. I truly believe part of it comes from the empowerment that began at Camp Courage. Thank you for the work you do. Just know that your voice gives power to many, many women who have never had a voice. So, thank you for using yours. Thank you for showing me what a strong, powerful woman can look like.”

Camp Courage helps young ladies become interested in emergency service careers, but the bigger goal was to create passionate community leaders. Tiffany is the epidemy of that. The positive impact she has made on our community is immeasurable. We are so very proud of Tiffany, her perseverance, her ability to get up after being knocked down, her ability to turn a negative situation into a favourable one, her strength, her successes, her tenacity in standing up for those who don’t have the courage to stand up for themselves, and especially the support and success she brings to many others. Keep up the incredible work!
