March Success Story – Eliza

Eliza is from Cape Breton, graduated from Camp Courage Class of 2022 and is currently attending Cape Breton University.

What I liked about Camp Courage was that I felt very comfortable. I know some girls aren’t comfortable around men and they are scared to be judged or down on. While I was there I left like nothing can stop me. The motivation and the confidence I had there was so out of this world, especially being a young Indigenous woman from a reservation. That kind of environment was so empowering, I left with friendships and no enemy’s. The camp was very welcoming and the people that volunteered their time to come help and teach us on how it’s like to be in that of field was very supportive. I don’t think I’ve felt that much support in such a short period of time. If I can do it, then anyone can, there’s no such thing as I can’t because you can and will succeed in what you truly believe in. I would recommend it to all girls who want a feel of the emergency field and what it’s like to be a female hero because at the end of the day the people that wear the badge to help others are real heros in my eyes, everyone is a hero.

Once Eliza finishes school, she aspires to be a Firefighter or Paramedic.
