March Success Story – Taigan
Taigan was from Bedford, Nova Scotia, graduated from Camp Courage Class of 2007, became Advanced Care Paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic and is currently a Critical Care Flight Paramedic in the North West Territories. She works in Health Centers in Remote communities in Nunavut and Instructs the Primary Care and Advanced Care Paramedic Programs at SAIT in Calgary. We have graduates that have worked in emergency services for over a decade. Taigan is an instructor at the Camp and promotes the Camp at conferences and events. She is an excellent addition to our team.
As you can see by her many quotes from her camp experience, she is all in.
“I love how you pushed me to my limit but were encouraging me the whole way.”
“It has inspired me to go for what I dream, whether it is in the emergency field or not. I am a woman ……. And damn proud of it!!”
“You have taught me not to fear the unexpected but to embrace the challenge and “struggle to emerge.”
“From this camp, I have learned many important traits that will help me along this long road called life.” “Girls Rock” and can do anything that men can do …. Except with more style.”
Here is what Taigan had to say about the Camp.
“I wanted to send a quick note regarding Camp Courage. In 2007, I was a graduate of this outstanding program, and it is all thanks to Andréa and this Camp that I am where I am today. Camp courage opened up my eyes to the possibility of being a part of emergency services. It empowered me to be whatever I wanted to be and never give up, no matter how many challenges I encountered. During the 8 days of Camp, young females are encouraged to break out of their shells of comfort and build lifelong skills such as problem-solving, commitment, hard work, communication, team building, compassion, strength and most of all… courage. Andréa and her team of professionals from all emergency fields and her team of volunteers, sponsors, and co-workers have successfully built this Camp from the ground up to what it is today. I have come back every year to volunteer with the Camp because of how much I believe in it. It is amazing to see the transformation of the young ladies from day 1 to grad day. On day 1, generally, most are very nervous, not outspoken and keep to themselves. By the last day, this same group of young ladies stands with pride, helping their fellow campers and beaming with confidence at what they had accomplished during the week. This Camp sets all of the campers up for success, not only in the present but also in the future. Andréa has inspired me to keep reaching for my goals and never give up. My goal with Paramedicine has also been to become a Critical Care Paramedic. I am currently enrolled and about to complete my program for CCP (update-she attained that designation). I will reach my goal. Then I will set another one and reach that too. This Camp encourages young females to be whatever they want to be. All they need is a little courage.”
Best wishes, Taigan
