Kings District RCMP has arrested a man for threats and weapons offences after an incident in Port Williams.
On March 4, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a report of threats on Hwy. 358 in Port Williams. RCMP officers learned that a 36-year-old Arlington man, who was believed to be in possession of a firearm, had threatened to shoot a Port Williams man and woman, who are known to him.
A short time later, RCMP officers located the suspect in his vehicle, parked near a park in Port Williams. RCMP officers advised the suspect that he was under arrest and to step out of his vehicle and get on the ground. An RCMP officer deployed a conducted energy weapon (CEW) which was effective and the suspect was arrested without injury. RCMP officers located a replica firearm in the suspect’s vehicle, which was seized.
After the arrest, RCMP officers noted that the suspect was displaying signs of impairment. He was also arrested for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and was transported to the Kings East Detachment (New Minas), where he provided samples of breath that were over the legal limit.
The suspect was released on conditions and will be facing charges of Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation equal to, or over, 80mg%. He will appear in Kentville Provincial Court at a later date.
