Freezing rain warning in effect

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

Locations: province wide excluding northern Cape Breton and southwestern areas of mainland Nova Scotia.

Time span: beginning late Friday morning and ending late Friday evening.

Remarks: The province will see a mix of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain beginning Friday morning. Most areas of Nova Scotia will see a prolonged period of freezing rain Friday afternoon and evening. Freezing rain and ice pellets will change to snow or flurries Friday night before ending Saturday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
