Richmond County District RCMP charge man with animal cruelty

Richmond County District RCMP has charged a man with animal cruelty after an incident in Louisdale.

On February 2, 2023, Richmond County District RCMP received a report of a social media post about a dog being tied up in the woods in Louisdale. RCMP officers began investigating the incident and learned that the dog had been rescued by a third party and was no longer out in the elements.

On February 3, a 29-year-old Port Hawkesbury man contacted the RCMP advising that he wanted to turn himself in for this incident. The man met with an RCMP officer at the St. Peter’s Detachment and was later released on conditions, including that he not possess any animals. The man turned over a second dog prior to his release.

Dryden George, 29, of Port Hawkesbury, has been charged with Cruelty to Animals and will appear in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on April 24, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.

Richmond County District RCMP is working with the Nova Scotia SPCA and a local rescue organization as part of this investigation.
