Police charge man for sexual assault

Police have charged a man in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in Halifax last month.

On October 22 police received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred in a residence in the north end of Halifax. A man employed as a technician with Data Wiring Solutions, who was working in the area, sexually assaulted a woman who was not known to him.

Investigators with the Sexual Assault Investigative Team of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged Renaldo Antonio Lewis, 33, of Eastern Passage, with one count of sexual assault. Lewis is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

We are not providing any further details to protect the victim. Sexual assault investigations are complex. As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims to determine if they wish to proceed with an investigation and charges. Police must also ensure the victim’s privacy is upheld and their well-being is fully considered.
