Police continue to investigate the murder of Derek Alan Lowe
Tomorrow is the 35th anniversary of the murder of Derek Alan Lowe and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.
On January 28, 1988, at 7:20 a.m., police responded to a report that a citizen walking on a pathway at Maybank Sport Field in Dartmouth had found an unresponsive man. Officers located a deceased man with a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Derek Alan Lowe. The investigation provided that Derek was last seen the evening of January 27, 1988, at a bar in the north end of Dartmouth.
Investigators believe there are people with information in relation to Derek’s murder who have not come forward to police. We hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to do the right thing and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

Derek’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.
