Wind warning in effect

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected Wednesday night.

Maximum gusts: southerly 90 km/h. Potentially exceeding 100 along exposed areas of the Atlantic coast.

Locations: Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia.

Time span: Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Remarks: An approaching cold front will bring very strong winds ahead of it beginning late Wednesday. Winds will switch to a westerly direction and subside somewhat mid-day on Thursday.

Loose objects (such as seasonal decorations) may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

This warning will likely be expanded further as the event nears.

High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
