Quinpool Road’s Pet Parade Is Back! And SPCA Santa Pix Too

On Saturday, November 26th, pups, dogs, hounds and pooches dressed in their finest holiday attire including reindeer antlers, Santa hats, ugly Christmas sweaters, jingle bells and tutus will take over Quinpool Road as they take a stroll down the street during Quinpool Road’s Pet Parade.

Pets and their owners will meet Santa and other like-minded pooch lovers at the front of the Oxford Tap Room, 6418 Quinpool Road. The parade begins at 11 am and will be led by Santa Clause and a Halifax Regional Police Officer. The parade will take place on the sidewalk and will commence and end at The Oxford Tap Room where the SPCA Santa Pix will take place immediately afterwards from 12 noon to 2 pm.

Owners can have their pet’s photo taken by a professional photographer with Santa at a cost of $20.00 for a digital copy. All proceeds go to the SPCA for animals in need. The photographs will be taken on the heated and festively decorated back deck of the Oxford Tap Room. Westender Coffee, located inside the Oxford Tap Room will be offering $2.00 hot beverages with all proceeds going to SPCA.

We are thrilled that the Quinpool Road Pet Parade and holiday pet portraits are back,” says Taylor Huestis, Communications & Development Officer at the Nova Scotia SPCA. “Our Nova Scotia SPCA shelters do not receive any government funding. With the snow and colder weather coming, more animals will come to the SPCA with nowhere else to go. These events will raise much-needed funds to spread holiday cheer to pets who need it most.”

“We are thrilled to bring these two events back to Quinpool Road, says Karla Nicholson, Executive Director of the Quinpool Road Mainstreet District Association. “And this year we have some new “folks” to make this the most festive and fun pet parade to ever take place on Quinpool Road”, she adds.

Quinpool’s Pet Parade will coincide with the Association’s first ever Snow Folk Winter Street Art Festival, where dozens of wooden “Snow Folk” will be displayed in the windows and entrance ways to several businesses along Quinpool Road. The “Snow Folks” are made from wooden pallets and have been transformed into colourfully decorated winter street art pieces that reflect the businesses that have created them.

“The Snow Folk Festival is the brainchild of Allan Carver of Mad Secret Lab who collaborated with the association on how to keep the amazing art vibe alive on Quinpool Road following the success of the Halifax Mural Festival”, says Karla Nicholson. The association has also hired multidisciplinary artist Melanie Mendez Munden to bring an amazing artistic flair and life like qualities to several of the Snow Folk displayed on Quinpool Road. The Snow Folk Winter Street Art Festival kicks off this Thursday and will be a permanent fixture on Quinpool Road throughout the Holidays and beyond.
