Lunenburg District RCMP charge driver after a red-light violation resulted in a collision with school bus
Lunenburg District RCMP has charged a driver after a red-light violation resulted in a collision with a school bus on Hwy. 3 in Hebbville.
On October 19, at approximately 8:40 a.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a school bus and a Ford F-150 pickup truck on Hwy. 3 in Hebbville. RCMP officers learned that the school bus was travelling west on Hwy. 3 when it began slowing and displayed its amber lights. The F-150 was travelling east on Hwy. 3 when it approached the school bus. The bus activated its red lights and stop sign, and the F-150 collided with the extended stop sign. The bus was not damaged, and the F-150 suffered minor damage to its driver side mirror. No injuries were reported.
The driver of the F-150, a 72-year-old Hebbs Cross man, was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for Failing to Stop for a School Bus Exhibiting Flashing Red Lights. The ticket carries a fine of $410.
This week is National School Bus Safety Week and the Nova Scotia RCMP continues to ask motorists to stop for school buses that are exhibiting flashing red lights.
