May vehicle/pedestrian collision statistics

Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP release a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.

A total of 39 vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle collisions were reported from January to May 2020 in Halifax Regional Municipality. Of the total collisions, there were four that involved a bicycle or scooter. The remaining 35 collisions were vehicle/pedestrian and there were 36 pedestrian victims.

Of the 36 pedestrian victims involved in reported collisions in 2020:

  • 2 fatality
  • 1 experienced major injury
  • 13 experienced moderate injuries
  • 12 experienced minor injuries
  • 8 experienced no injuries

Four drivers arrested for impaired driving over the weekend in Lunenburg.

Lunenburg District RCMP arrest four impaired drivers over the weekend in Lunenburg.

On June 5 at 5:20 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a call of two males on a yellow ATV, with no helmets, seen driving on Victoria Rd. in Lunenburg. The men were located at a nearby residence and the driver failed the roadside screening device. The man was then taken to the Chester Detachment for further breath tests. The 26-year-old driver is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over​ 80​ mg%. He is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on August 26.

On June 5 at 11:43 p.m., a RCMP member stopped a speeding vehicle along Hwy. 3 in Gold River. The RCMP officer could smell liquor off the driver’s breath and observed numerous open liquor containers in the vehicle. The 21-year-old male driver, was given the roadside screening device test which he failed. He was then taken to the Chester Detachment where he provided further breath tests. The man is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over​ 80​ mg%. He is schedule to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on September 2.

On June 6 shortly after midnight, RCMP members were conducting a check stop along Hwy. 12 in Chester Grant, when they were approached a Side-by-Side ATV. ​ One of the officers observed open liquor on the back of the machine and administered the roadside screening device to the male driver, which resulted in a fail. The 29-year-old driver was taken to Bridgewater Police Service where he provided two samples of his breath. He was released and is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over​ 80​ mg%. He is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on September 2.

On June 7 at 2:53 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP received a call of an intoxicated motorist who had stopped their car along Hwy. 332 in Lilydale and was standing in the middle of the roadway in a state of undress. RCMP members attended the scene and located the female driver of the vehicle, sitting in her car. The driver was clearly intoxicated and was arrested for Impaired Operation. She was taken to Chester Detachment where she provided breath samples. The 39-year-old woman was held in custody until sober and then released.​ She is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Operating a Conveyance with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over​ 80​ mg%. She is schedule to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on September 2.
