Annapolis District RCMP arrest man for weapons offences

Annapolis District RCMP, with assistance from Digby RCMP, has arrested a man for weapons offences following an incident in Cornwallis Park.

On September 15, 2022, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Annapolis District RCMP received a report of an agitated man in a driveway on The Dingle Rd. in Cornwallis Park. The man was said to be in possession of a knife and possibly a gun. RCMP officers from both Annapolis District RCMP and Digby RCMP responded immediately to the scene.

Two RCMP officers located the man in the driveway who was extremely agitated. One officer drew his pistol and another drew his conducted energy weapon (CEW), they advised the man he was under arrest, however the man refused to comply. The officer with the CEW pointed it at the man and advised him that if he did not comply, the CEW would be deployed. The man then got on the ground and was successfully handcuffed. The CEW was not deployed as a result of the man’s compliance after the CEW warning was given. The man was transported to the Bridgetown RCMP Detachment where he was held in cells overnight.

During the investigation, RCMP officers seized a hatchet and a pry bar, however no firearms or knives were involved in this incident. They also learned that the man had been attempting to break-into garages prior to the incident in the driveway.

The 26-year-old man will appear in Digby Provincial Court today and will be facing charges of Break and Enter with Intent, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (2 counts) and Mischief.
